I've got a new Scanse Sweep, and started testing it with the Arduino Mega examples.
As the scanner starts spinning, coming up to speed, it will often "seize up", stopping spinning suddenly. Sometimes it will start spinning up again, other times it will stay put unless nudged. It also seizes up if it's moved at all while spinning.
Has anyone else run into this problem? Is this expected behavior with a common fix?
Things I've tried so far:
- Powering the Arduino Mega from a 4 AA battery pack instead of a USB port. (For higher available amperage on the 5V pin.)
- Adding a bypass capacitor to the power supply. (Tried a few different size caps.)
It actually got worse after I tried this, and started seizing up continuously, whenever it hit top speed. It continued to seize up at top speed after the bypass capacitor was removed. My gut feeling is that I got a scanse with a bad bearing, and it's going from bad to worse as I try it out.
