Great to hear you're enjoying your Sweep!
The application checks online for information about the latest firmware and visualizer versions that have been released. It then informs the user of any difference between the currently installed version and the latest available version.
You likely saw an orange popup containing a message like:
The connected device is using firmware v1.0 which is out of date. Go online to download the newer firmware v0.1 at scanse.io/downloads.
What you are experiencing is actually a known bug with the current visualizer. In this case, the application is caching the information it finds online. So now, every time it goes to check online it simply consults the cached information. This means your visualizer is NOT seeing the most up-to-date info about firmware releases. At the time I'm writing this, the latest release is firmware v1.0, which is the version that shipped on your device. That is to say, you have an up-to-date firmware! The visualizer is just consulting outdated information and telling you that the latest release should only be v0.1.
We already fixed this bug, along with many others. These fixes will be included in the upcoming visualizer update which we hope to release on Monday. Unfortunately the same caching issue will likely apply to the visualizer release information as well. Your current version of the application might not indicate that a new version is available. So we will likely make the release clear via email, kickstarter update etc. Keep an eye out for it!
As a temporary fix, if the orange popup is pesky and you'd like to see it display updated info, you can manually clear the application cache. The directory varies by operating system, and you will have to enable viewing hidden files.
On windows the cache directory will usually be something like
"C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\SweepVisualizer\Cache" on win10 and perhaps
"C:\Users\username\AppData\SweepVisualizer\Cache" on older versions of windows.
On linux it can be found at
And on mac it will be in
"~/Library/Application Support/SweepVisualizer/Cache" or
In any case, simply delete all the files inside the
"Cache" directory, and then start the application. It should then pull updated information about the latest releases and you should see a green popup in the visualizer that says something like:
The connected device is using the latest firmware v1.0
Sorry for the inconvenience. Again, keep an eye out for the upcoming visualizer release which will fix many existing issues. And thanks for using Sweep!
