At least in theory, could one attach a color camera to the scanner, maybe on top of it, in order to capture vertex color information for the pointcloud ?
I know that you'd need to calibrate it very well, by determining the exact precise position of the camera in relation to the scanner - but it was done before - for example Structure sensor uses an external RGBD camera from a mobile device (iPhone or iPad), so we would have two options for Sweep:
- fixed, dedicated camera, to be provided by Scanse as an add-on maybe ?
- use of an external mobile device, with maybe Scanse providing a 3D model of a bracket to keep it nice and tight, for a number of smartphones/tablets.
